Salisbury is the second studio album by Uriah Heep, originally released in 1971, and stands as a bold statement in the early development of progressive and hard rock. Expanding on the heavy, organ-driven sound of their debut, the album incorporates orchestral arrangements, extended compositions and ambitious songwriting.
The record is best known for its epic title track, “Salisbury,” a 16-minute suite that blends rock instrumentation with a full brass orchestra, showcasing the band’s willingness to push beyond conventional rock boundaries. Alongside it, tracks such as “Lady in Black,” “Bird of Prey” and “The Park” highlight the band’s mix of powerful vocals, soaring keyboards and dynamic guitar work.
With its fusion of hard rock energy and progressive experimentation, Salisbury captures Uriah Heep at a formative and adventurous stage in their career. It helped establish their reputation as one of the most distinctive British rock bands of the early 1970s.
