Marquee Moon is widely regarded as one of the most important albums to emerge from the New York CBGB scene. Led by Tom Verlaine and Richard Lloyd, Television created a sound that stood apart from the raw aggression of many contemporaries, blending punk’s energy with intricate musicianship, poetic lyricism and extended, melodic guitar passages.

Released in 1977, the album’s clean, ringing guitar tones and interlocking leads became hugely influential, helping shape post-punk, alternative and indie rock for decades. The ten-minute title track remains a landmark recording, combining improvisational freedom with precise structure and atmosphere.

Alongside highlights such as “See No Evil” and “Friction,” Marquee Moon captures a band redefining what guitar-based rock music could be — sharp, intelligent and hypnotically melodic.
