Damnation is the seventh studio album from Swedish progressive masters Opeth, originally released in 2003 as a striking companion piece to the heavier Deliverance. Produced by Steven Wilson, the album marks a dramatic stylistic shift, embracing clean vocals, atmospheric textures and 1970s-inspired progressive rock influences.
Completely absent of the band’s usual extreme metal elements, Damnation focuses on melancholy melodies, delicate acoustic passages and introspective songwriting. Tracks such as “Windowpane” and “In My Time of Need” highlight the emotional depth and subtle complexity that define this unique release in Opeth’s catalogue.
