King Curtis - Get Ready (MOCCD14397) CD
King Curtis was an American saxophonist and bandleader who played rhythm and blues, soul, rock and roll, and soul jazz. He played riffs and solos on hit singles such as “Respect” by Aretha Franklin (1967), and “Yakety Yak” by The Coasters (1958) and his own “Soul Twist” (1962), “Soul Serenade” (1964), and “Memphis Soul Stew” (1967). His importance as a musician and a producer is underlined here by his collaborators: Cornell Dupree, Eddie Hinton and The Swampers ; Eric Clapton and Delaney Bramlett on “Teasin'” ; Jimmy Smith on “Soulin'” ; and more. The album “Get Ready” is nice instrumental Rhythm & Blues, still rooted in the 60s sound and features 10 tracks.
