Far East Suite is one of Duke Ellington’s most ambitious and richly textured works, inspired by the orchestra’s 1963 tour of the Middle East and Asia. Co-composed with longtime collaborator Billy Strayhorn, the album blends jazz orchestration with musical impressions drawn from countries including Iran, India and Japan.
