Down - NOLA CD

NOLA is the powerful 1995 debut album from American heavy metal supergroup Down, featuring vocalist Phil Anselmo of Pantera, guitarist Pepper Keenan of Corrosion of Conformity, guitarists Kirk Windstein and Todd Strange, and drummer Jimmy Bower. Drawing on the heavy sounds of sludge metal, Southern rock and doom, the album delivers thick guitar riffs, gritty vocals and a raw New Orleans atmosphere.

The record opens with the driving “Temptation’s Wings” and “Lifer”, before moving through the crushing riffs of “Pillars of Eternity” and “Rehab”. “Hail the Leaf” and “Underneath Everything” showcase the band's heavy, groove-led sound, while “Eyes of the South” and “Stone the Crow” provide memorable highlights. The album closes with the extended, hard-hitting “Bury Me in Smoke”.

Recorded and mixed at Ultrasonic Studios in New Orleans, NOLA remains a defining release in the sludge metal genre, combining weighty riffs, blues-influenced grooves and an uncompromising performance.
