Released in 1975, Marcus Garvey is the landmark album from Jamaican reggae legend Burning Spear. Widely regarded as one of the most important records in the history of roots reggae, the album combines hypnotic rhythms, spiritual themes and powerful storytelling.
Named after the influential Black nationalist leader Marcus Garvey, the album reflects the deep cultural and political inspiration of the Rastafari movement. Burning Spear’s commanding vocals and meditative lyrics explore themes of identity, heritage and liberation, all set against rich, atmospheric reggae grooves.
Produced by Jack Ruby, the record features some of the genre’s most revered tracks including Marcus Garvey, Slavery Days and The Invasion. The deep basslines, steady drum patterns and haunting horn arrangements create the distinctive sound that helped define the golden era of Jamaican roots music.
