Downset - Do We Speak A Dead Language? (MOCCD14148) CD
The intro of ‘Do We Speak A Dead Language’? includes a sample of a Martin Luther King speech followed by the heavy tracks “Empower,” “Eyes Shut Tight” and “Keep On Breathing. As on their debut, this successor contains a mixture of rap, hardcore punk, metal and funk. The lyrics are intense, no holds barred and socially conscious. They tell the story of growing up on the streets of L.A. encountering racial hatred, violence and other atrocities. Rey Oropeza‘s rap and vocals with the guitarwork from Brian “Ares” Schwager is what makes Downset makes unique. A great guitar intro on “Touch,” which starts out clean and mellow and then rips into a brutal hardcore style. Rey excels on songs like “Pocket Full Of Fatcaps” and “Sangre Di Mis Manos,” which is sung in Spanish.
